Core idea of this particular house is shaped by a 30-year-old Mahogany tree—a living legacy planted by the homeowner’s father. Situated on a 120 sq.w. plot in Bangkok, this towering presence serves as the primary anchor for the architecture, dictating the flow and character of the entire residence. To accommodate a substantial 500 sq.m. program while preserving the tree, the house is shaped into a U-shaped volume, creating a central "Mahogany Court." Instead of a dense, uniform block, the building’s mass is sculpted to step up in height—starting as a single-story wing on the south and ascending to three stories on the west. This stepped geometry serves a dual purpose: it acts as a wind corridor to pull breezes into the courtyard while functioning as a massive sun-shield against the harsh afternoon heat. Inside, the rooms are positioned to follow the solar path, ensuring natural light enters each space at the most appropriate hour. The exterior’s rustic stone and board-formed concrete echo the texture of the mahogany’s bark, while the interior uses a minimal palette of white and dark timber. This creates a quiet backdrop for the home’s true artwork: the shifting shadows cast by the tree canopy throughout the day.
