When the original home no longer met the needs of a growing family, the homeowners decided to build a new house on the land reserved within the original property’s boundaries. The challenge was how to create a new space that didn't feel cramped, yet still provided a pleasant atmosphere that matched the charm of the previous home. The available plot for the new house was narrow and deep, so the design team chose to align the new structure lengthwise along the plot. They then reconfigured the driveway to feature a large green space at the front, acting as a welcoming courtyard between the two buildings. This lawn area is easily accessible from both homes, offering a shared outdoor space that connects the new house to its surroundings. The garden seamlessly links to the house through a pool and semi-exterior terrace, opening to the living and dining areas of the ground floor, where family time is spent—whether playing in the yard, swimming in the pool, reading on the terrace, or cooking in the kitchen. On the other side of the plot, a shared parking area serves both homes, with a pathway connecting it to the original and new houses, framed by lush greenery. The second floor of the main house is dedicated to recreational spaces and lounges, while the top level offers a private retreat with panoramic views, providing a sense of intimacy. The exterior is defined by horizontal lines, with wooden elements and alternating vertical louvers that control sunlight and provide privacy, allowing residents to keep their curtains open day and night without concern. "Uttayan Residence" isn’t designed to create a dramatic or iconic statement, but rather to foster a vibrant, family-oriented environment. Centered around a lawn for children, it encourages shared family moments, creating a lively, comfortable atmosphere where the concept of "home" is realized in its most inviting form.
